"My Singapore Rhapsody" Micro Film Competition
(the “Competition”)

This Competition is organised by:

  • Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations (“SFCCA”);
  • Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (“SCCC”); and
  • SPH Media Limited (“SPH Media”).

(collectively the "Organisers")

By registering for the Competition, each participant agrees:

  1. and consents to be bound by and to comply with the Terms and Conditions and any amendments, additions, replacements, variations and modifications which the Organisers may make hereto, which shall be final and binding in all respects on each participant;
  2. and consents to each of the Organisers independently collecting, using, disclosing and processing the participant's personal data, including photographs, audio-video or other recordings of the participant ("Materials"), and sharing the participant's personal data and Materials among the Organisers and/or their respective authorised service providers for purposes related to the Competition which include but not limited to administering and promoting the Competition, for publicity and/or advertising campaigns across all media, including in each of the Organisers’ printed publications, audio and/or visual presentations, promotional materials and/or their websites, whether in the original or edited format connected to the Competition, without further notification, remuneration or compensation;
  3. that the copyright and all other intellectual property rights in and to all Materials shall vest solely and absolutely in the Organisers, each of whom reserves all rights to use these recorded materials or any parts thereof for promotional and marketing purposes, including, without limitation, screenings and for the publicity, promotion and graphics related to the Competition and/or the business activities of each Organiser, and/or the Organisers as a whole;
  4. that non-compliance with or breach of any of the Terms and Conditions may disqualify a participant from the Competition, and any prizes won may be forfeited, withheld, withdrawn or reclaimed; and
  5. that the Organisers' decision on all aspects of the Competition shall be final.

How to Participate

  1. Registration: Participants registering for the Competition must do so via the Online Registration Form.
    1. Registration deadline: 22 October 2023, 2359hrs.
    2. Eligibility: The Competition is open to anyone of age 13 and above as at the date of registration. Any participant under the age of 18 must submit a consent form duly signed by his/her parent or legal guardian ("Consent Form"), to be submitted together with the completed Film Submission Form.
  2. Submission of Film: Participants who have successfully registered for the Competition must submit their participating film (the “Film”) online, with all the relevant accompanying documents submitted at the same time, based on the following details:
    1. Submissions can be done by filling up and submitting the Online Film Submission Form, duly completed by the participant, or via email to microfilmsg@gmail.com.
    2. Participant's Film must be submitted with the participant’s complete and valid particulars. Incomplete submissions shall be rejected.
    3. Deadline for submission of the Film Submission Form and accompanying Film: 15 March 2024, 2359hrs.
    4. Entries shall not be deemed to have been received by the Organisers unless the participant can produce proof of receipt by the Organisers.
    5. Each participant may submit multiple entries. However, each Film must be submitted using a separate Film Submission Form or sent in separate emails to the email provided in 2(a).
  3. Categories: The Competition is conducted in two main categories:
    1. Category I, the “Open” category;
      Category I is open to filmmakers residing in Singapore and/or of Singaporean citizenship or permanent residency status (including those studying or residing overseas) and who are not full-time students.
    2. Category II, the “Student” category, for students.
      Category II is open to all persons pursuing a full-time educational course in an educational institution (the Organisers reserve the right to request participants to submit any such proof of academic pursuits at said educational institution).
  4. Fees: No fees are chargeable for participating in the Competition.
  5. Entry Details for Film

  6. Genre and theme: All genres are accepted subject to the following criteria:
    1. the Film must contain local (Singaporean) themes; and
    2. the Film must include “My Singapore Rhapsody” as one of its major themes.
  7. Format and content: Each submitted Film must comply with the following requirements:

    .mp4 / .mov / .avi / .wmv

    Dimensions

    16:9 widescreen format -1280 x 720; or 640 x 360

    File size

    No more than 300MB

    Duration

    Each Film shall have a minimum run length of 30 seconds and a maximum run length of 10 minutes.

    Language

    A submitted Film can be in any language. However, English productions are to be subtitled in simplified Chinese, Chinese productions are to be subtitled in English, and productions in all other languages are to be subtitled in both English and simplified Chinese. The title of each submitted Film shall be either in English or in simplified Chinese.

    Opening and closing credits

    All submitted Films must contain complete opening and closing credits. The “My Singapore Rhapsody” Micro Film Competition logo must also be inserted at the end of the Film.

    No restriction, you may use your mobile phones, tablets, cameras, etc.

    Participant's undertakings and warranties

  9. By submitting a Film for the Competition, each participant undertakes and warrants that:
    1. he/she shall be liable for all aspects of compliance with these Terms and Conditions;
    2. he/she is solely responsible for any content of the Film;
    3. he/she has been significantly and directly involved in all aspects of creative control and direction of the Film as either a director, producer or screenwriter; and
    4. he/she has obtained and acquired all requisite rights, clearances and permissions with respect to the Film so as to grant to the Organisers the rights hereby granted.
  10. By submitting a Film for the Competition, each participant expressly grants to each of the Organisers:
    1. consent to use his/her name, country or title of his submitted Film in publicity materials for the Competition, including on the Competition's website and;
    2. rights to arrange for public screenings of the Film solely or in conjunction with other films for the promotion and marketing of the Competition and/or of the businesses of each of the Organisers;
    3. rights to reproduce any photographs or other copyright material that a participant has furnished to the Organisers, for the Organisers' use in organising the Competition and for the promotion and marketing of the same and of the Film; and
    4. rights to use, upload and screen his/her Film and submitted materials relating to the Film on the Competition’s website; and on the website and social media of each of the Organisers and each supporting organisation.
  11. Each participant warrants, undertakes, and agrees with each of the Organisers that he/she:
    1. is free to enter into this Competition and to grant to the Organisers the rights granted in it and are not under any disability restriction or prohibition which might prevent them from performing or observing any of their obligations hereunder;
    2. has not entered into and shall not enter into any arrangement which might conflict with these Terms and Conditions;
    3. shall not, without the consent in writing of the Organisers, disclose, reveal or make public information of any nature in connection with the business of the Organisers or any information relating to the Competition which they obtained only because of the Competition, all of which shall be treated as strictly confidential;
    4. is the sole author of the Film and the sole, absolute and unencumbered legal and beneficial owner of all rights of the copyright and all other rights whatever in and to the Film throughout the world. In respect hereof, a participant who chooses to adapt from other works, including but not limited to songs, books, and films, shall be fully and solely responsible for obtaining the original creator’s written consent to adapt said source material into the participant’s Film. If the Film is based on a person’s life story, the participant needs to obtain relevant releases or permissions attesting to rights obtained for the incorporation of such story into the participant’s Film. The Organisers and its judges are not obliged to investigate and cannot attest to the authenticity of a participant’s statement of authorship or rights but reserve the right to request participants to submit any such proof of adaptation release or permissions;
    5. will assist the Organisers, without any form of compensation whatsoever, whether monetary or otherwise, in connection with any application for rights and to do all such acts and things as any of the Organisers may advise to be necessary or desirable to perfect such licence or rights in respect of the Film; and
    6. will inform and indemnify the Organisers and keep each of the Organisers at all times fully informed of and fully indemnified from and against all actions, proceedings, claims, demands, costs (including without prejudice to the generality of this provision legal costs of each Organiser on a solicitor and own client basis), awards and damages, whether or not groundless, however arising directly or indirectly as a result of the participant’s negligence, any breach or non-performance by the participant of any of their undertakings, warranties or obligations under these Terms and Conditions.
  12. Each Film must not have been sold, be in turnaround, be in pre-production, or have been produced at the time of its submission or at the time of the judging. If any part of the Film has been sold before the conclusion of the Competition, the participant and the Film shall be automatically disqualified.
  13. Submitted copies of Films will not be returned.
  14. To qualify for the Competition, the Film must:
    1. be an original creation by the participant and not distributed prior to submission to the "My Singapore Rhapsody" Micro Film Competition;
    2. not infringe any patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright, right of publicity, or any third-party rights;
    3. be suitable for publication (i.e., may not be obscene or indecent);
    4. not contain obscene or pornographic material;
    5. not contain potentially defamatory statements about any person, company, organisation or entity;
    6. not invade the privacy or other rights of any person, company or entity;
    7. not violate applicable laws and regulations; and
    8. not contain any works or materials that the participant does not own or hold the rights to.
  15. The Organisers, in their sole discretion, may prohibit or disqualify any entries deemed to be inappropriate. The Organisers also reserve the right to refuse to screen any Film or to make any announcements at the screening regarding the content of any Film.
  16. Judging

  17. All entries will be submitted for a preliminary round of adjudication. Only Films that are chosen by the preliminary round’s adjudicators will proceed to be judged by a panel of judges ("Panel").
  18. Neither the identities of the adjudicators nor their decisions of the preliminary round will be disclosed to the participants and/or the public, nor shall said decisions and/or the identities of the said adjudicators be open to questioning, objections, and/or appeals from the participants and/or the public. All decisions made are deemed final and conclusive.
  19. Each submitted and qualifying Film will be judged for its overall quality and concept and based on factors including but not limited to originality, storyline, structure, characterisation, dialogue, theme, setting and the Panel's overall opinion of the Film.
  20. The Panel will decide the winning teams and entries of the Competition, except for the “Most Popular Micro Film Award – Gold, Silver, and Bronze”, which will be decided through public voting.
  21. The computation of scores and selection of winners by the Panel shall be final. Further correspondence and disputes will not be entertained.
  22. The Organisers reserve the right to declare that there shall be no winners for the Competition should the Panel decide that none of the submissions meets the standards required for the Competition.
  23. Prizes will be awarded based on details available on this page.
  24. Prize(s) are non-transferable and non-exchangeable. The Organisers reserve all rights to substitute the publicised prizes with other prizes of similar commercial value at their sole discretion, and their decision(s) on all matters relating to the competition shall be final and binding. The list of winners will be published on the Official Website.
  25. None of the Organisers shall be liable for any safe custody, return, non-delivery or missing of entries, late, misdirected or unavailable network, server or other connections or technical features.
  26. General

  27. By entering the Competition in accordance with the terms herein, the participant acknowledges and further agrees:
    1. that the Organisers reserve the right to vary, amend, delete or add to these Terms and Conditions at their discretion, without prior notice. Participants will be notified of any amendments to these Terms and Conditions on the Competition's Official Website, and their continued participation in the Competition shall be deemed as the participants’ acceptance and agreement to the revised Terms and Conditions;
    2. that the Organisers reserve the right to cancel or postpone the Competition or to modify any part of the Competition at any time without prior notice and without liability to the participants. In the event of such cancellation, postponement or modification, the Organisers will post the details of cancellation, postponement, or modification on the Competition's Official Website and may inform the participants at their discretion;
    3. that if the cancelled or postponed Competition is not rescheduled, the Organisers shall not be liable for any loss or inconvenience caused;
    4. that all rules of this Competition and the decisions rendered by its judges and adjudicators are final and no verbal or written correspondence, including but not limited to enquiries and appeals, will be entertained;
    5. to indemnify, defend and hold harmless the Organisers from and against all claims, demands, losses, damages, costs, liabilities and expenses (including legal fees) arising out of or in connection with any and all claims based on the material(s) submitted by the participant herein in pursuance of the Competition or any breach of the terms herein by the participant; and
    6. be bound by all decisions of the Organisers, the Competition's administrator and its adjudicators and judges, whose decisions shall at all times on any matter be considered binding and final.
  28. The Organisers shall not be liable for any claim, damage or loss of any kind of any nature whatsoever caused and howsoever arising as a result (including, without limitation, indirect or consequential loss) of or otherwise in connection with the participant's making or production of the Film, registration for, postponement or cancellation of the Competition. The participant agrees to release and waive all rights and claims against the Organisers, as well as their respective supporting organisations and staff, from any and all claims, demands, payments, proceedings, judgments, settlements, awards, expenses, and other liabilities that may arise in connection with the Competition.
  29. Participants acknowledge that the Organisers receive numerous screenplays and story ideas in the course of its operation, and any similarity to any participant’s Film material created, produced, distributed or represented by any of the sponsors or judges may be coincidental.
  30. The Terms and Conditions are in English and Chinese. In the event of any conflict or inconsistency between the two versions, the English version shall prevail.
  31. These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of the Republic of Singapore, and participants agree to submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the Singapore courts.
